KanYe, Weezy, M.I.A, and others on Time magazine's influential person list

Rapper Lil Wayne [click to read] has made his way onto a number of well-known lists since the release of his top-selling album Tha Carter III [click to read]. But now Lil Wayne has managed to take the number 12 spot on Time magazine’s “World’s Most Influential Person” list.

As Time’s 12th most influential person, Lil Wayne beat out both Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey who clenched the 37th and 98th spot on the list.

“His Grammy-winning, multi-platinum album, Tha Carter III, was the perfect showcase for Wayne’s raw, hilarious, and often outer-planetary rap style,” Time explains of Lil Wayne. “And his Southern-gentleman act is legit, as evidenced by his slightly flirty interview with Katie Couric.”

The finalists for the list were chosen through a poll featured on Time’s website. Lil Wayne received close to 940,000 votes and the number one spot on the list was given to Christopher Poole, the founder of 4chan.org, he received almost 17 million votes.

Other music artists and innovators to make it onto Time’s list include rapper M.I.A., Prince, the Twitter inventors, and Kanye West.

Currently, Lil Wayne is awaiting the release of his album Rebirth which is expected to be released this year. (via hiphopdx)

Spinning vinyl ipod touch app

The app uses the accelerometer of the ipod touch to control the speed of a ‘vinyl record’ on the ipod screen. Slowing down the record and speeding it up is just a matter of controlling how fast you spin the device. (via f.a.t)

Jay-Z and KanYe face off in Complex's style war

When STYLE WAR started, there were 64 rappers competing for the title of Best Dressed Rapper of All-Time. But after 5 rounds, you the voters have narrowed things down to two MCs in the final battle. And it’s a tough choice: JAY-Z vs KANYE WEST

These style icons are undoubtably two of the most influential trendsetters in popular culture, but they represent distinct eras: Hov was at the forefront of hip-hop fashion through the ’90s and early ’00s, while ’Ye has made his presence felt in the fashion world since debuting in ’04. Who deserves to win the all-time title? It’s up to you. One final reminder to everyone: this competition isn’t about who the better rapper is. This isn’t a popularity contest. STYLE WAR is all about the look, not the lyrics. Cast your votes wisely!
(via stylewar/complex)
boogieb: what u think... check the barack-et: (here)

UPDATE In the final round, Complex’s current cover star received a whopping 77% of the vote against Jay-Z, who scored only 23% of the vote, despite taking out heavy-hitters like Biggie, T.I., and Diddy before going head-to-head with Kanye. Along the way, Mr. West also took out tough competitors like Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco and The Fresh Prince. Thank you to everyone who voted, and congratulations to everyone who won a prize along the way. (read)

Megan Fox x Esquire video image cover (DAPP Ladies)

boogieb: jus keep watchin... dapp...
Have you watched that enough times yet? You probably noticed there's something different about this Megan Fox cover tease for our next issue: It wasn't shot with a camera. At least not a still camera. For the first time in Esquire's history (and, we imagine, magazine history in general), a cover image was shot as a video. Using the RedONE, a video camera that captures images at four times the resolution of high-definition, photographer-director Greg Williams (see below) recorded ten minutes of loosely scripted footage with Fox — getting out of bed, rolling around on a pool chair, inexplicably lighting a barbecue. (via esquire)

KRS-One x Buckshot "robot" (DAPP Tracks)

KRS-One x Buckshot debut lead track "robot" produced by Havoc of Mobb Deep. Available May 5th for Download on iTunes World-Wide

KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT unveil the first song off their highly anticipated album "SURVIVAL SKILLS" in stores August 25th on Duck Down Records.

ROBOT, produced by Havoc of Mobb Deep, is a hard-hitting track that showcases KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT in true form, highlighting the current auto-tune trend in Hip-Hop and exposing the copy-cat mentality that has rappers hiding behind "the program." Stepping outside the factory that Hip Hop has become, the duo lead the charge in the battle for originality.

"Survival Skills" has confirmed features from Mary J Blige, Slug, of Atmosphere, Immortal Technique, K'NAAN, Talib Kweli, Sean Price, Naledge of Kidz In The Hall, Smif N Wessun, Rock of Heltah Skeltah and Geo of Blue Scholars.

Production on the album includes tracks from Havoc, of Mobb Deep, 9th Wonder, Black Milk, Marco Polo, Moss, Coptic, KHRYSIS! and Ill Mind (via macmedia)

Eminem thinks Asher Roth is dope, makes Asher happy

In the new issue of XXL, Marshall addresses the Asher Roth comparisons.

"Asher Roth, I haven't had a chance to, like, really get into everything, like, really get into what he's about, because I've only heard a couple songs. There was talk about people saying he sounded like me, and he was doing this and that and, you know, trying to take what I do and do it. You know, shit like that. I've heard things. But the stuff that I've heard from him honestly, which certainly isn't enough for me to make my own opinion and say, 'Yeah, he does sound like me' or 'No, he doesn't.' But the couple of songs I've head, I don't really think he does. You know what I mean? He's doing his own thing. I can respect it, too, because at the end of the day, I think he's dope."

Well, there you have it folks. Fuck more you want for free? The June XXL drops nationwide May 5, Support your local newsstands!

Bonus: Em also mentions working with two other rappers from their Freshman 10 cover.

grand theft auto 5: Scott Storch edition

Things keep getting worse for former filthy rich producer Scott Storch. First his boat foreclosed, now his presents are being snatched from his ex-boos.

It seems that after Scott Storch crossed Timbaland, karma has been biting him in the ass. If you can remember, the former producer was in the midst of major legal drama, for unpaid taxes and a baby mama who was suing him out the wazoo. Next came repossession and most famously his boat being sold at foreclosure, for only a fraction of what he paid for it.

Well, it seems that he is now being charged with grand theft auto. Scott allegedly (I am using that word very loosely), leased a Bentley and failed to return the car once the lease ran dry. It then took the auto company he got the vehicle from, 7 months to recover.

He plead guilty in Broward County Court this past Friday, April 11th, 2009. What makes this case even more spicy, is that Lil' Kim, who was dating Storch for a while, had a Bentley repossessed in 2008. Can you guess who that car was a gift from? No confirmation on if it's the same one, but if not; homeboy has a whole lot more problems than one man can handle.

Wale "nike boots" music video (DAPP Videos)

Eminem talks about stuff (DAPP News)

As Eminem gears up to release his highly anticipated album Relapse, the Detroit emcee opened up about several topics in an interview with XXL Magazine, set to hit news stands May 5.

Shady spoke on his widely publicized drug addiction, explaining, "I wasn’t ready mentally. I wasn’t ready to give up the drugs. I didn’t really think I had a problem. Basically, I went in, and I came out. I relapsed, and I spent the next three years struggling with it. Also, at that time, I felt like I wanted to pull back, because my drug problem had got so bad. I felt like, Maybe if I take a break, maybe this will help. I started to get into the producer role more… I can still be out there with my music, like with the Re-Up album, but I don’t have to be in the spotlight the whole time.”

Em also revealed his feelings about the death of his friend, Proof of D12. “Everyone felt his loss, from his kids, to his wife, to everyone," he said of the late rapper, who died just over three years ago. "But, for some reason, in hindsight, the way I felt was almost like it happened to just me… Maybe at the time I was a little bit selfish with it. I think it kind of hit me so hard. It just blindsided me. I just went into such a dark place that, with everything, the drugs, my thoughts, everything."

Eminem added that he is just now able to discuss the matter without becoming emotional. "Proof was the anchor. He was everything to D12. And not just the group-for me, personally, he was everything.”

Finally, Em spoke on the current state of Hip Hop, revealing that he had stayed current on the art form, but wasn't necessarily impressed. "...without naming any names, it just felt like Hip Hop was going downhill. And it seemed like kinda fast. You know, in them three years, it was like everybody just cares about the hook and the beat; nobody really cares about substance."

But not all hope is lost for Eminem, it seems, as a few names have kept him hopeful about the Hip Hop game. "But with this new T.I. album, with this new Lil Wayne album of recent, it seems like things are looking a lot better now. You can appreciate Lil Wayne using different words to rhyme and actually rhyming words that you know. Or T.I., where you hear shit and you’re like Whoa, ah, I wish I would have thought of that!" (via hiphopdx)

Relapse is scheduled for release on May 19.

HAVING THE CRAZY EGO IS PLAYED OUT AT THIS POINT IN MY LIFE AND CAREER. I USE TO USE IT TO BUILD UP MY ESTEEM WHEN NOBODY BELIEVED IN ME. NOW THAT PEOPLE DO BELIEVE AND SUPPORT MY MUSIC AND PRODUCTS THE BEST RESPONSE IS THANK YOU INSTEAD OF “I TOLD YOU SO!!!” IT’S COOL TO TALK SHIT WHEN YOU’RE RAPPING BUT NOT IN REAL LIFE. WHEN YOU MEET LITTLE WAYNE IN PERSON HE’S THE NICEST GUY FOR EXAMPLE. I JUST WANNA BE A DOPER PERSON WHICH STARTS WITH ME NOT ALWAYS TELLING PEOPLE HOW DOPE I THINK I AM. I NEED TO JUST GET PAST MYSELF. DROP THE BRAVADO AND JUST MAKE DOPE PRODUCT. EVERYTHING IS NOT THAT SERIOUS. AS LONG AS PEOPLE THINK I ACT LIKE A BITCH THIS TYPE OF SHIT WILL HAPPEN TO ME. I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I’M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I’M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE. I’M SURE THE WRITERS AT SOUTH PARK ARE REALLY NICE PEOPLE IN REAL LIFE. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DRAW MY CREW. THAT WAS PRETTY FUNNY ALSO!! I’M SURE THERE’S GRAMMATICAL ERRORS IN THIS… THAT’S HOW YOU KNOW IT’S ME!” (via celebritysmackblog)
