She is also the protégé of rapper Missy Elliott. Her debut single "Need U Bad" has reached number one on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, while her second single, "Bust Your Windows" has cracked the top 5, peaking at four. boogieb: produced by 'Ye, off the 'notorious' movie soundtrack (Jan. 13th) which i imagine would be pretty dapp

Brooklyn Go Hard - Jay-Z

boogieb: had to repost this... been on my santogold $h!t recently. If not Jazmin Sullivan this lady is the best new artist of 2008 that has actually released a studio album (am i forgetting anyone else? can Janelle Monae count). She's not hiphop, rap, or r&b but it never hurts to expand your "mind grapes". just glad i finally got around to checkin out Jazmin's and Santo's albums

" The album's first singles, "Creator" and "L.E.S. Artistes", were both well received. "L.E.S. Artistes" placed at number two on Rolling Stone's Singles of the Year, behind Beyonce's "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)", while the album Santogold was sixth on their albums of the year list. "Creator", along with "Lights Out", has appeared in commercials for Bud Light Lime in the United States, and VO5 hair products in the United Kingdom. Similarly, "You'll Find A Way" was featured in the EA Sports video game, FIFA 08, with "L.E.S. Artistes" featured in some versions of its sister game NHL 08 as well as in commercials for the Ford Flex. Her song "Say Aha" was featured in a Zune-Arts video. (via wiki) "

Time magazine top 10 songs of 2008 ft. Lil Wayne's a mille at #4 (DAPP News)

#1- kanye west 'love lockown'
Singing in an Auto-Tuned monotone with little regard for melody, West sounds ghostly as he recounts his romantic failures in brutal detail. Just when "Love Lockdown" seems too brittle to sustain itself, humanity arrives in the form of an army of Japanese taiko drums. At first it sounds like pop-guns going off, but the drumming gets faster, warmer, wilder, and matched against West's distant vocals "Love Lockdown" turns into a dance song about misery — far closer to "Love Will Tear Us Apart" than any hip-hop ancestor. It's easily the most interesting pop experiment this year, and, if you grant its premise and stick with it, also the best.

#4 - lil wayne 'a millie'
Like all rappers, Lil Wayne rarely lets a song go by without declaring at some point that he's ill. The difference is that he really seems to be. The backing track here — little more than a bass kick, some plastic-y snares and an endlessly looped sample of the words "a milli a milli a milli" stolen from A Tribe Called Quest's "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" — never coheres into a chorus, and all the elements move in different rhythms. It's like hearing a song through cough syrup — perfect for Wayne, who wheezily declares "I don' write shit 'cause I don't got time," and then conjures up enough crazy, off-balance wordplay to convince you he's either a liar or a savant. Either way, he's definitely some kind of ill.

#7- beyonce 'single ladies (put a ring on it)
People who don't dance usually don't make exceptions, but I saw a man who has abstained from any rhythmic movement for nearly a decade crack within 20 seconds of hearing this ludicrously infectious Beyoncé hit. The rhythm is double-dutch. The lyrics are liberating if your idea of liberation ended with Gloria Gaynor. The melody is — who are we kidding? It's not a melody, just the sound track from the '80s arcade hit Frogger. Still, "Single Ladies" works because Beyoncé cuts through all the racket like a train whistle and she seems to believe every word she sings, while the slightly menacing minor chords that creep in halfway through keep things from getting too repetitive.

#10- gnarls barkley 'going on'
2006's "Crazy" was so convincingly insane that most people were disappointed with this reasonable-seeming follow-up. "Going On" is just a sweet soul song about moving past a relationship without bitterness ("May my love lift you up to the place you belong/ But I'm going on"). Still, it's hardly dull. Danger Mouse fills the track with little quarks and shooting stars that rotate deferentially around Cee-Lo's interplanetary vocals. If that's not weird enough for you, at least they made a strange video.

Anthony Hamliton ft. David Banner "cool" (DAPP Videos)

Cool - Anthony Hamilton Feat. David Banner

Keyshia Cole "a different me" album – listen now (DAPP Tracks)

The album focuses less on heartache and more on maturity of her vocals and lyrics. Cole explained that, "The first two albums were more…painful. It's a different me this time: a young woman who's still growing and finding myself, exploring life through different routes musically and in other areas. I wrote more about other people's situations than my own. I'm moving forward."On the songwriting process, Cole stated, "When I hear something, I hear it—it doesn't take me three, four, five times to hear a song and say, 'OK, let's write.' If I don't write to it right off the bat, it's not working." All the songs on the album were written or co-written by Cole. Guest appearances include Kanye West, Nas, Monica and Tupac. Along with the album, Cole is developing a movie based on her life. A screenwriter will develop the script with Cole in 2009 (via wiki).

Jamie Foxx 'inuition' album listen now (DAPP Tracks)

Intuition is third studio album by actor and R&B singer Jamie Foxx. It is scheduled to be released on December 16, 2008 in the United States under J Records. Man’s Intuition, as Foxx describes it, will focus on the needs and wants of the opposite sex. "On my radio show I have this panel of beautiful women and they were talking about how men with a lot of money aren't all that. But if a guy has no money, that's no good either,” Foxx explained. So I was thinking, 'What does a woman want? We go from there and build the story and the songs." (via wikipedia)

Beyoncé, MTV thinks your boring (DAPP News)

Is Beyonce’s Private Nature Hurting Her Album Sales?
Hey there, Beyoncé.We here at MTV News have a theory you might be interested in hearing.Your music is great, don’t get us wrong. We can’t stop bopping to “Single Ladies” here in the newsroom. But we suspect that the album-buying public can’t get past the fact that you come across as, well, boring. Even though you cooked up this crazy, metal-glove-wearing alter ego Sasha Fierce, people still don’t know how relate to you, and perhaps your record sales are being affected.

This isn’t a problem for Taylor Swift and Britney Spears, who live their lives constantly in the media. We know everything about them. Where they shop, what kid of coffee they like (Fraps, y’all), whom they date, what happens on their dates …Taylor’s always out there talking about how badly Joe Jonas broke her heart or her awesome (read: antiquated) rules for dating (never call a guy first, girls!). She posts MySpace blogs about her broken-heart mixtapes. Meanwhile, Britney went on the record in her documentary and talked candidly about her breakups with Kevin Federline and Justin Timberlake. This is in addition to the fact that she’s popping up everywhere, trying to show the world that she is Britney the pop star again, not Britney the tabloid queen.

Taylor Swift has sold nearly 1,300,000 copies of her album Fearless since its release a month ago. And Britney claimed the top spot this week, selling over 505,000 of Circus in its first week. Then you, Beyoncé, find yourself at #3. Selling over 893,000 copies of I Am … Sasha Fierce in three weeks is impressive, but you’re still the bridesmaid and not the bride.

Speaking of weddings, you still won’t really talk about your new hubby, Jay-Z. Privacy is one thing, but you guys barely even take pictures together. And maybe you do like to go out and have a good time, but how are we supposed to know this? It kind of takes away from the fun of your party anthems if we think you’re actually sitting at home embroidering pillows or something.

So, here’s a new game plan: Maybe the kooky wild Sasha Fierce can get out there and start gossiping about Beyoncé. Take this split-personality thing a little further and allow her to tell us a little more about you. Until she does, you’ll always be a few steps behind Britney and Taylor.
(-Jocelyn Vena via mtv/dyfuse)

boogieb: how you gonna tell some one else how to run their life/career. personally i like my privacy...maybe that's why i havent sold any records. or maybe its because i don't even make record. whatever.

Keyshia Cole feat. NaS "oh oh, yeah yeah" (DAPP Tracks)

Eminem "number one" aka "crack a bottle"produced by Dr. Dre (DAPP Tracks)

boogieb: some new eminem... eminem?! yep, back to work

Eminem took some time out of his busy recording schedule to speak to Billboard.com about his upcoming and highly anticipated release, Relapse.

"Me and Dre are back in the lab like the old days, man," Eminem says. "Just him banging away on tracks and me getting that little spark that makes me write to it. I don't have chemistry like that with anyone else as far as producers go -- not even close. Dre will end up producing the majority of the tracks on Relapse.'We are up to our old mischievous ways ... let's just leave it at that."

Em also spoke on "Crack a Bottle" (originally referred to as "Number One"), a song that recently leaked. It left the Detroit emcee "really heated". It wasn't close to finished, and it even has me doing guide vocals for Dre as a suggestion of how he could lay his verses down. It's like someone catches you peeping in your window before you got the Spider-Man costume all zipped up! Nobody is supposed to see that. We are gonna finish it up though and get it out there how it's supposed to be. (via hiphopdx)"

“Yeah, it’s happening. What I’m most happy about is, man, Tip really came to me respectful of the work I put in. Like, he didn’t come to me like, ‘How can I throw you a bone?’ He came to me like, ‘I see what you got going on. I really like what you [got] going on. I got some questions about what you got going on.’ He asked a few questions. I gave a few answers. And [he] was like, ‘I think I might be able to help with what [you] got going on. How would you feel about it?’” -killer mike (via hiphopdx)

hiphopdx's 4th annual turkey awards (DAPP News)

It's that time of the year again. The 4th Annual Turkey Awards are in effect and ready to hand out some wonderful awards to those who tickled us with their often idiotic actions.

You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll laugh until you cry and obviously you'll call have nobody to blame but the people in question, and YOU - for helping write these in the digital suggestion box that is the message boards. Save a drumstick and throw it at the wack rapper. Happy Thanksgiving from DX.

•The Turkey Award for "This is Too Inappropriate for Words"… Goes to R. Kelly for hopping on the "If I Were a Boy" remix. If you were a boy...you'd have no problem banging out teenage chicks? We're just saying.

•The Turkey Award for "Invisible Bully, Like The Gooch"… Trick Trick. Whether it's rappers, bloggers or your grandmother coming out of the supermarket, nobody is safe from Trick Trick's reign of terror.

•The Turkey Award for "WWE Smackdown"…Yung Berg. That Detroit beatdown/chain yapping, followed by another chin check from Maino, makes Berg the number one contender...for a two piece.

•The Turkey Award for "Off-Duty Officer Award"...goes to Rick Ross. There were three fights at the Dirty Awards. You could've at least pulled out your badge and made yourself useful.

•The Turkey Award for “The Milhouse Van Houten, ‘But My Mom Says I'm Cool’”…Tyga. Before Yung Berg became the Hip Hop pinata, this baby shit-soft rapper was always on the business end of a chain-snatching. It also didn't help that he spent his advance check on gaudy, ugly cartoon chains. Lil Wayne - if he was ever coherent enough to witness this happen to his artist at all - would be shaking his head.

•The Turkey Award for "I Still Think I'm A Star But No One Gives A Shit"...That's you Damon Dash. Your relevance ended when Jay stopped shouting you out and putting you in his videos.

•The Turkey Award for "Bamboozled"… Goes to Soulja Boy Tell Em. Slave master's? Would you like to shout out David Duke while you're at it? How about an iced-out noose?

•The Turkey Award for "Max B: Biting The Hand That Feeds You"...Lil' Wayne, who gets more love from mixtape deejays than anyone else...ever, sends a big fuck you to all of them. Say no to syrup kids.

•The Turkey-Sausage Award for "Wackest Beef”… Goes to Funkmaster Flex and Faizon Love from The Parent Hood. Since when does "Big Worm" from Friday become the voice of reason in Hip Hop?

•The Turkey Award for "Never Learning About Karma"...Suge Knight. Damn, how far can one man fall and continue to be such an asshole. Click here, here, or here.

•The Turkey Award for "I Sold My Soul To The Devil For Success"...DJ Khaled, there is no other explanation as to why this guy has a career outside of yelling "we need change" to people passing by on the street.

•The Turkey Award for "I've Been Bitten More Times Than A Vampire Victim"…M.I.A. Everybody from Kanye West to Sean Combs to no-names like NOE was taking slices off of "Paper Planes" like it was a t-bone steak. even Stack Bundles was spotted on a "SLU" remix, and Stack Bundles isn't even alive

•The Turkey Award for "I'm Not Who You Think I Am"...Mos Def. Allegations of beating his stripper ex-girlfriend, beating up photographers, 6 kids with 4 women. Sorry conscious rap fans, he's not your poster boy.

•The Turkey Award for "Fuck All This Earthy, Conscious Shit"… Is a tie between ?uestlove and Common. ?uest finally makes Sasha Grey safe for work, and Com ditches the hand-knitted pants for an album of party music. That was the sound of 1 million collective okayplayer sighs.

•The Turkey Award for "Edo G: Be A Father To Your Child Award"… Is for Scott Storch. No more Maybachs ...pay your damn child support.

•The Turkey Award for "The Jig Is Up, Time To Stop Pretending"...Rick Ross, Plies, you've been exposed. Time to let it go.

•The Turkey Award for "Look, I've Got Chin Pubes"…Lil Bow Wow. Cameos with Jenaveve Jolie on Entourage? Allegedly knocking up Superhead? It's time to talk with our little man about the birds and the bees.

•The Turkey Award for “Rapper Hit Hardest By The Recession”… Memphis Bleek. Shampoo commercials, really?

•The Turkey Award for "Didn't I See You On Cops"… Is for the one and only DMX. Earl has all the earmarks of one of those perps on Cops: wifebeater (check), cocaine near the crime scene (check), that deranged look (check). Paging Officer Ross!

•The Turkey Award for "I'm Rich, Bitch"…Nelly. Brass Knuckles, probably went brass. But he's got Ford Flex, CSI, Jordan, Apple Bottoms, Charlotte Bobcats money, so he laughed all the way to the bank.

•The Turkey Award for "Iyanla Van Zandt: Yesterday I Cried Award"… Goes to former G-Unit members The Game and Young Buck. We think a Kleenex sponsorship isn't far off.

•The Turkey Award for "No Homo, Double Pause"…It’s a tie between Shaquille O'Neal, and Ne-Yo. "Tell me how my ass tastes," vs. "Three finger slap?" We say it's a [salad] toss up.

•The Turkey Award for “Why Can't We Make Hits Anymore?”…A tie between 50 Cent and Scott Storch. The candy shop is closed.

boogieb: funny $#!t. no kanYe? would almost expect to see him somewhere on a list like this. im still waitin for the '08 rap up–where you at skillz?
