in stores now: K'Naan "troubadour" (DAPP News)
K'naan (pronounced /ˈkeɪnɑːn/), born Kanaan Warsame, is a Somali-Canadian poet, rapper and musician.
His second studio album, Troubadour, is set for release on February 24, 2009 on A&M/Octone Records, and will be distributed through Universal Music Group worldwide. The album's first single, "ABC's", was released to radio in late 2008, and is featured in the videogame Madden NFL 09. The song "If Rap Gets Jealous", a rerecording of a track from The Dusty Foot Philosopher, features Metallica lead guitarist Kirk Hammett. K'naan was also the first featured artist on X3, a collaborative project between CBC Radio 3, Exclaim! magazine and aux.tv to promote new Canadian music.
Critics have said K'naan has "a sound that fuses Bob Marley, conscious American hip hop, and brilliant protest poetry." His voice and style have been compared to Eminem,[4] but his subject matter is very different; according to K'naan, he makes "urgent music with a message", talking about the situation in his homeland of Somalia and calling for an end to violence and bloodshed (via wiki)

Rihanna after the assault (DAPP News)

Los Angeles police have opened an internal investigation into who illicitly leaked a close-up photograph of Rihanna's brutalized face purportedly taken after her Feb. 8 altercation with Chris Brown.
"The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence," the LAPD said in a statement Thursday. The department has yet to publicly identify Rihanna as the alleged victim in Brown's case.
"A violation of this type is considered serious misconduct, with penalties up to and including termination."
The LAPD says it immediately launched an investigation after its media relations department was inundated with press inquiries about the picture, which first surfaced on TMZ.com and appeared to the cops to be a photo taken "during an official domestic violence investigation."
The police encourage anyone with information about how the photo got out in the first place to contact the department.
The photograph making the rounds is a close-up of a young woman's face. Her eyes are closed and she looks to have sustained various cuts and bruises to her forehead, lips and cheeks. (E! Online has made the editorial decision not to run the image.)
On Friday, the L.A. police officers union offered its approval of the LAPD's response to the leak."We applaud the Los Angeles Police Department for quickly opening an internal investigation into whether a picture posted on TMZ.com is an actual evidence photo," read a statement issued by Paul M. Weber, president of the Los Angeles Police Protective League.
"As in the case of the privacy breach earlier this month where confidential personnel information of 248 officers was disclosed by the LAPD, the LAPPL strongly supports an expansive review of security procedures within the Department. We fully support letting the investigation take its natural course."
The identitiy of any officers accused of wrongdoing should also be kept confidential, Weber added.
A law-enforcement source close to the Brown investigation tells E! News the leaked photo was one taken by a detective when officers first arrived at the Hancock Park scene of the alleged attack.
"There was another set taken at the hospital, where the swelling is even worse," the source said.
Per the source, the fight began when Rihanna intercepted an incoming text message to Brown's cell phone from another woman. She later told police this wasn't the first time Brown had been physically abusive.
But this time, the source said, "she may have thrown the first punch."
The insider also tells us that, within 48 hours of Brown's arrest, "a tabloid" offered "over 100 grand" for a police photo of Rihanna.
"Internal Affairs is up in their butts over the leaks," the source said, adding that, even earlier today, LAPD staffers were being warned about leaking info. "They're threatening to administer polygraphs."
The D.A.'s office, which is trying to pin a felony charge on Brown, is still mulling over the best avenue to take if it opts to prosecute.
The consensus among police is that the D.A. will only file charges for crimes for which they have "solid" evidence.
Brown is currently free on $50,000 bail. He has booked by police on suspicion of making criminal threats. (via eonline)

That's right, that scuzzy hoe, who goes by the moniker Danger from Brandy's lil' brothers show, is claiming that she was knocked up by the R&B singer/actor. Monica Leon, 22, broke the news to the National Enquirer, (how classy) and revealed that the baby was conceived during filming of the show. Proving that all those people are just getting drunk and screwing all day. She also claims she is just finishing her 1st trimester and is 3 months pregnant.

Last month we mentioned how former Goodie Mob member, current Gnarls Barkley singer Cee-Lo Green was part of a multi-million dollar global Coca-Cola ad campaign with the likes of Travis McCoy and Janelle Monae. As part of the promotion, Cee-Lo’s beautiful face will be featured on Coke cans across the globe and ads will be promoting the new collab song “Open Happiness” which you can listen to here. According to reports, Chris Brown has turned himself into the LAPD. The 19-year-old singer is under investigation for alleged domestic violence felony battery stemming from an incident that occurred around early Sunday morning.full story here
The crooner and an unidentified woman -- which is assumed to be Brown's girlfriend Rihanna -- allegedly became involved in a heated argument in their vehicle that eventually spilled out of the car into the street. Brown and girlfriend Rihanna both skipped their Sunday Grammy performances after he turned himself in on suspicion of making felony criminal threats during an incident Saturday evening. According to the LA Times, the two got into a verbal argument in a limousine and pulled over to continue outside; by the time officers arrived, Mr. Brown was gone while Rihanna had "suffered visible injuries and identified Brown as her attacker, according to police." RZA: What Wu-Tang’s CEO Really Wants To Do Is Direct
The RZA can't dance. Certainly, people as tall as the Wu-Tang’s CEO — also known as Bobby Digital — sometimes have trouble catching the rhythm, but this is a man who reinvented music. And yet, don't be surprised to see him at an LA hot spot, twitching and twisting in the ear of a Hollywood hottie, or awkwardly bouncing offbeat in half conversation with the weird beard dude from System of a Down.
On the last Tuesday of January, RZA was at one such nightclub, but it didn't matter one bit that the man couldn't dance — when you’re garbed in full samurai attire and a giant afro wig, people tend to not to notice that you have two left feet. Backed by the stone cold funk and soul of Stone Mecca, RZA was there to celebrate the release of Afro Samurai’s second season DVD and the franchise's video game. He tore through selections from the soundtrack (which also dropped that day), as well as “You Can’t Stop Me Now” from Bobby Digital’s 2008 album Digi Snacks.
Before leaving the stage, RZA told the absurdly packed crowd of VIPs and anime nerds that Afro Samurai wasn't going to stop and to expect a feature film. Which is fitting, seeing as RZA is truly ready to fully immerse himself in cinema. This summer, he has what could be a breakout role in what many experts are calling the year's biggest comedy, the Judd Apatow-helmed Funny People, starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan. He's also ready to add director to a resume that already includes actor and scorer. Noticeably absent on that list of skills? Dancer. (via shockhound)
